The Central Kolkata District Congress Committee has accused the local authorities of failing to address the rampant sale of illegal drugs and gambling, as well as a surge in thefts and anti-social activities across Central Kolkata. In a protest march that began at the Lotus Petrol Pump near Maulana Azad College and ended at the DC Central Office, a delegation of six members submitted a deputation highlighting their concerns.
The Committee also raised the issue of shops and bars operating beyond legal hours, leading to accidents on the roads and putting the public in danger. Despite complaints made to various police stations, no action has been taken to address these issues, according to the Committee.
Addressing the media, Soumen Pal, the President of Central Kolkata District Congress, stated that if the new Deputy Commissioner Central fails to take appropriate action, they will approach higher authorities and launch a larger movement.
The Committee's allegations point to a need for urgent action to address the growing menace of illegal activities and their negative impact on the community.
